#MarathonMonday … kinda … (wk 9)
The day finally arrived!! BootCamp day! All was going smoothly until creeper McCreeps showed up. And thanks to my ladies intuition we got his butt put in jail…
Dude walks in 30 minutes after class starts. I thought , ‘this dude is creepy but maybe he’s just the janitor or wanting to workout or wasn’t clear this is a ladies only class.” After a while dude puts his hands in his freaking pants. That’s it. When he goes out to his truck (he kept going back and forth) we decided to call the cops and I marched up to him and kindly explained this was a ladies only class and that he was making us feel uncomfortable and that he should leave. Of course he argued and said some ugly, stupid things.
By this point he stole some of my St.Jude Hero items (who in the hell does that?!) pardon my French but, this ticked me off. Don’t steal from my babies!!!!!! Ps-I’m running as a St.Jude Hero at the Nashville Marathon April 29th so there’s still time to give. Click HERE to give 🙂
And I’m so thankful for friends who stick around to make sure I’m okay and that all my equipment was properly stored. Sara is my fitness angel!!! Next class we will get a group photo of all the funzies we had. 🙂
However, the story gets even creepier…
As any good wife does I called my husband about 45 minutes after class and we had finished briefing with the officers. My husband asked what the guy’s name was. I told him his first name and my husband immediately followed up with his last name. I was like, “How did you know?”
Husband: “The same dude called our facility here (all facilities names kept private for privacy.) a little while ago and asked about our events and your photo is up on the board here for our fitness readiness event…”
Basically, I now have a stalker. What this means for me is that once he’s released from jail I’ll need to be extremely cautious in my running habits. Pepper spray, lots of indoor treadmill running and running during daylight areas not around back alleys.
Here’s how we need to be smart to stay safe…
- Several of my BootCampers felt uneasy and they were right to follow their intuition. Dude has a criminal background and several mug shot photos. always listen to your intuition.
- Do not disclose too much personal info on the web. I took down my address from my Facebook business site. I feel so dumb. When you live in a small community you just don’t think much in the way of stalkers or serious harassment. It sucks we have to live cautious like this. This blog even makes me feel nervous.
- Carry a form of protection like pepper spay.
- Lock all doors when hosting an event. Or alone at home. Somehow I missed a door…
But I am a warrior. I’m not chicken little. Am I shaken up? Yes. But, all this did for me was fire me up to help women everywhere feel powerful and in control of their lives and their bodies.
As far as marathon training is concerned this week is off to a good start. Six miles easy on the treadmill. I can handle that. 😉 This week has a few new workouts on the training schedule, thanks coach! Always giving me a run for my money. But, that’s exactly what I needed. For example he’s got me running an “alternating k’s” workout this week. Something new to me that’s both scary and exciting. Exactly how a goal should feel. I needed new and challenging workouts to push me past that wall I’ve been running into lately.
This past weekend was a blur. The long run turned into a hot mess. If you follow me on Garmin connect or Strava you get if. But, then again is putting my runs and maps on social media so wise? I am going premium so I can add the ‘beacon’ feature that way my husband will know when, where, how long. As far as falling apart this weekend I came back Sunday morning stronger. I really just think I’m not an afternoon runner. However, the first four miles on Saturday with a kiddo went well at the Oskar Blues 4-miler. I ran as a volunteer coach and when I asked one little girl what she thought about while running she said this:
I pray this little girl always feels free and never has to worry about jerks in this world….
Have you heard of or ran an alternating ks workout? Have you ever had a stalker scare? If so, how did you handle it?

The words “I am” are potent words; be careful what you hitch them to. The thing you’re claiming has a way of reaching back and claiming you. – A. L. Kitselman
