[CONTEST] Coffee Chat: Bloody Noses, Jesus, Stickers and Ankles.
What do bloody noses, Jesus and ankles have in common? Yesterday morning. That’s what.
A week out from the big race and my ankle complex is giving me a fit, blood came cascading out of my nose but I did get to sleep in and enjoy a cup of coffee that my husband brought to me…and my Bible is open beside me now…
Let’s chat shall we?
I apologize in advance for my scattered thoughts …
I’m not sure if it’s the gloomy weather outside, or if it’s exhaustion from building a business, my bum ankle, stress of running (although in looking back at my training log I feel like I worked way harder last marathon training cycle??), house projects (hello new flooring), allergies, or if I’ve caught a cold. But, the short of it all is this: I just don’t feel good.
So in taking my own advice from Monday (in case you missed it: How I Prep 10 Days Out from a Marathon) I’m still on board with my beets daily(#GreenHeartJuice is life), I’m resting more and reviewing my Strava training log and my Compete journal. I’m a bit conflicted because I see way more easy runs especailly compared with preveious training cycles (paces ranging from 8:10-9:30s…I use to run a lot in the 7:45s) than I see hard runs. Yet, during my workouts I see faster paces ran for longer that I couldn’t sustain previously.
I think the biggest kicker though is the fact that my heel and ankle complex have been a bit fussy. I twisted my left ankle pretty darn good about a month ago. I swear I would trip over flat dirt. It sent up enough pain to cause me to pause my run and kinda “limp” back to my car. The pain subsided the next day so I kept on running…however, I haven’t realized (until now) it’s been causing me to run on the lateral aspect of my foot placing extra strain on my calf and achillies. One morning I woke up and it hurt to place my heel down on the floor.
<<Insert freak out moment here.>>
So I called up my massage therapist and scheduled an appointment asap. In my massage therapist’s words: “your calve is a brick.”. Yes. Yes it is.
So I opted to cut my 12 miler short. Like, made it a 2.3 miler. I probably would have gone on some more but the kid didn’t wanna bike any farther. Yep, blaming my lack of training on the kid. #MomLife

The words “I am” are potent words; be careful what you hitch them to. The thing you’re claiming has a way of reaching back and claiming you. – A. L. Kitselman
