Miles Two Weeks Post Marathon
Popping in to chat a little about running two weeks post marathon.
Basically, all things are well and wonderful! I got back up to 39ish miles last week (Strava lies and says I ran 40ish miles also with a 4ish minute mile. GPS got lost in DuPont I suppose…yay for Strava false prs!) with zero issues. Some miles were jogged, a handful walked and many with friends. After taking it easy the week after and a fairly easy run down last week I’m ready to throw in a little speed! Not much. Just enough to keep my legs rolling. So I created a little plan of my own Jess style. So basically I’m winging it. Don’t worry all my girls have plans fit to a T for their specific needs. I’m just going to be a bit lazy in my own planning for a while. 😉 The only major goals I have for the summer are:
- Stay in shape. Strength training twice weekly and yoga nightly. So far so good. But, I’m only one week into my “plan”… 😉
- average about 40 miles per week
- read books non-running related. I know. *gasp* So I’m currently into “Unglued: Making Wise Choices in the Midst of Raw Emotions” by Lysa TerKeurst I know I must seem like a level-headed young woman of Christ…(insert roars of laughter here) but on a very personal note I def struggle with letting things get to me and then explosions have been known to happen…RIP glass lid. If you feel alone in this department please know you are not! This book has been so, so encouraging to my soul.
- run 100 miles on new-to-me trails for this reason:
I enjoy my road running and racing like no other…but, there’s something about all that green that makes my heart beat on a whole different level.
What the heck I’m doing running wise:
Monday: Easy 6 with a few pick ups. Not long or too fast. Just enough to breathe hard for a few seconds. Also “jogged” my memory (see what I did there?) and ran the local 5k course that I’ll be kinda racing May 26th. (oh, yeah. There’s a White Squirrel 5k coming up! I hate 5ks. They hurt and about 1.5 miles in I’m mentally done. Obviously I have something to work on here. So, I’m running it.)
Tuesday: Today I attempted 8 x 200 meters which only translates into a mile of “speed”. And I’m cool with that. All paces were ranging in the 6:02-6:24 min/mile. Totally just ran off of whatever I felt like doing. No pressure to hit certain paces. Grand total of 4.5 miles. Yeehaw. Quite a difference from 10-13 miles of speedwork during marathon training. Kinda loving it.
Wednesday: Figured I’d run easy again. Maybe like 7 miles or run for an hour. Whichever comes first or last…
Thursday: hill sprints! I have my 5k bootcamp class and will probably participate in the fun with them. Then run easy after hitting 8 miles for the day.
Friday: Maybe a nice longer trail run…hmmm 10 or so.
Saturday: 5k bootcamp day with my girls! Somewhere in the 3-5 mile range.
That oughta give me 40 miles.
Oh, and how I’ve forgotten the impact that heat has on my body during spring/summer training!! So thankful my sweet little NUUN package came in the mail today. I’ve tried their Mango flavor in the Performance line and I’ll be honest…not a big fan of the flavor. Like really at all…having said that the formulation works very well, lasts throughout my longer runs and gets the job done for the long hard efforts. I’m curious to see what the Blueberry Strawberry offers…let y’all know asap. Taste is a factor but I think the fact that NUUN is NON-GMO, made with real ingredients (like real fruit), clean sport and a clean company says enough for me to stick with them. I support their mission!
And that’s a
MondayTuesday wrap. 😉
What are your summer goals for miles, races and various other things? Do you struggle with occasional emotional explosions?
