Over Striding, Shin Splints and Shalane. A Quickie Post.
Happy Friday! I can’t tell you how many blog posts I have listed under ‘drafts’ currently. It’s a little embarrassing… I don’t know why I seem to be struggling mentally just as much as I am physically at this stage of pregnancy but I’ve hit this terrible phase where it’s like I just don’t care…(but, y’all know I care about YOU!)
So, I decided to simply share with y’all a short post with inspirational videos and a quote since I can’t seem to get my thoughts organized otherwise…
Since I’ve been forced on the treadmill more these days (thanks to a car situation. Where I live it’s near impossible to go out for an easy run without hiking uphill or slamming downhill and that’s not what this pregnant body needs right now.) I’ve been watching a few youtube videos. In the spirit of Shalane’s New York Marathon success, I came across these two clips.
The first one I’m sharing with y’all is informational and stuff I’ve been preaching to my ladies for the past two years (like not overstriding, having a good hip range of motion, landing underneath the body…). It’s cool to watch how Shalane grew through this process.
And then, I watched this, The Trials of Shalane Flanagan, which was just super inspirational. To hear how she struggled mentally and then overcame those nerves made her a little more human in my eyes and reminded me that even the greats have to go through trials to find greatness.
And there’s this lovely reminder: God is within her, she will not fall. I have to keep reminding myself on a daily basis that God is with me. Even through this pregnancy and slow miles. If he can raise men from the dead how much more could He raise my post-baby body back to running life? Oh, the silly things we worry about…I trust Him in the big stuff, I def need to trust Him in the small stuff. Running fast seems like small stuff compared to some major life things but to me, it feels like BIG stuff. Make sense?
Do you watch inspirational videos when running on the treadmill sometimes? Music? Favorite Podcasts?
Favorite Bible verse or motivational quote?

The words “I am” are potent words; be careful what you hitch them to. The thing you’re claiming has a way of reaching back and claiming you. – A. L. Kitselman
