Creative Gift Ideas for the Runner
Happy early Thanksgiving my friends! Before the mad rush of the holidays begins I whipped up this concise list to spoil the runner or athlete in your life. I wanted to share some local goodies because shopping small makes a big difference in the community! And I also threw some other fun goodies in from Amazon.
Muscle Rub with natural ingredients
For the hard core runner:
The perfect stocking stuffer (or anytime gift!) from Prana Chiropractic (Fletcher, NC)
THIS little jar right here is gold. I don’t normally advocate for essential oil stuff but the other ingredients (Coconut Oil, Shea Butter, Lavender (Lavandula angustifolia), Peppermint (Mentha piperita), Wintergreen (Gaultheria procumbent), Helichrysum (Helichrysum angustifolia var. italicum), Clove (Syzygium aromiticum), Black Pepper (Piper nigrum), Idaho Balsam fir (Abies balsamea), Rosemary (Rosmarinus officinalis, CT Verbenon)) combined make this a top-notch rub. In fact, this worked so well it even prevented a bruise from growing. I’m kicking myself in the butt for not taking photos to prove it. I typically bruise easily and the nasty bruises last weeks on me. So I thought I’d rub some on my knee where I whacked it in the middle of the night (thanks, pregnancy clumsiness) When I reached out and asked how it worked so well they responded:
“The Health benefits of these oils include Anti-inflammatory, analgesic, anti carcinogenic, antiviral, antibacterial, antiseptic, anesthetic and the Wintergreen has a cooling effect, and the Peppermint a warming effect. Many of these oils have oxygenating properties, so very healing.”
She makes other goodies with essential oils like lip balm, oatmeal baths and roller balls to name a few. But, for the runner in hard training, this could save a lot of aches and pains without the otc drugs. Bonus: with coconut oil, it’s hydrating for the skin!

For the faithful runner:
I blogged about 5 diffrent training journals here (all of which are excellent options!) last week but came across a new kind of training journal I wanted to share with you today. Because I just couldn’t decide on a journal for my 2018 adventures yet. And I’m so glad I waited to invest in one because I came across this gem. From Running With Cadence comes the Devoted Training Journal where you can grow your faith in the Lord and run the race(s) set before you. It has all the training detail slots in a clean layout with room for prayers, Bible verses, and goal(s) tracking.
Personal Training Package
Keep the runner injury free with smart training! If you’re like most runners, you skimp on some pretty important stuff: strength training, flexibility, and range of motion work. Having a corrective exercise specialist onhand can really help bring the best out in the runner.
Contact me here if you’re interested in gifting a session or investing in a package in western NC! Now taking 2018 slots holding only 4 pre-paid bi-weekly minimum, in-home one-on-one sessions beginning in March currently. (shameless self-promoting plug)
For the health conscious runner:
Green Heart Juice (Brevard, NC) gift certificate! Keep the athlete nourished with whole, fresh, local juice! I recommend the HeartBeet for runners.
Other fun ideas for all runners
FootRX (Asheville, NC) gift card for all the glorious socks and shoes they could need!
REI gift card! Always a win for the outdoor enthusiast. And I can’t support their #OptOutside mission enough!!!
Race entry fee…(I may or may not be hinting to certain people now…if you want to get me a postpartum gift I welcome this. I’ll be happy to send you a link to all the races I’d like to run in 2018. 😉 ha!)
Pepper spray! Keep the runner safe…
Amazon Prime* so the runner can have all the running music they want. So I JUST discovered, thanks to my friend Sara, that you get FREEEEEE music downloads with Prime. I can’t rave about Amazon enough. I get free shipping, free movies, free music… and other fun perks.
What are you secretly hoping for from Santa this year? Will you be shopping local?
Me?? A commercial grade treadmill…

The words “I am” are potent words; be careful what you hitch them to. The thing you’re claiming has a way of reaching back and claiming you. – A. L. Kitselman
