Welcome Ruby to the World!
Meet Ruby, our sweet little girl who joined us January 11th at 2:53 am…only 1 week and 4 days late! 😉 She’s already an endurance athlete taking her time to arrive. The past 16 days have been some kind of a magical blur of extreme joy, exhaustion and a whole host of other emotions! Adding a new life to your world radically changes everything. I’ll save all that for another post. SO many emotions and thoughts! Just for now I wanted to pop in and say ‘hello’ and introduce you to the prettiest little girl in the world. Well, in our little world. <3 I do tend to update more on Facebook and Instagram because it’s easier to whip a short photo and post rather than attempt a blog post.
We are now 16 days postpartum and I am feeling stronger each day! Still about 13 pounds over my pre-pregnancy weight but I’m chalking that up to oh, you know, birthing a baby just 2 weeks ago and needing ‘fat reserves’ for nursing. I mentally feel ready to run but I know my body is not! So I’ve been diligent about practicing my basic core exercises such as heel taps, pilates crunches, bridges, clamshells and throwing in push-ups here and there. Also walking about 2 miles a day. It doesn’t sound like much but my body doesn’t need much right now. It needs rest and gentle recovery. I mean it’s not every day you push a human out of your body! Some processes you simply should not rush. And I know I preach this to my girls. 😉 Practicing what I preach!
Ruby sleeps well for the most part but I’m still super tired from the 3 or 4 am wake-up calls and the 24/7 nursing routine. Baby likes to eat and I’ve chosen to breastfeed for as long as possible because of the benefits for baby. Doesn’t mean I enjoy it totally….
On that note:
Breastfeeding is hard! People did warn me of this but no one really said why it was so hard. This article, 10 Reasons I hated Breastfeeding, explains it pretty well…so to help keep me company I’ve been listening to a LOT of podcasts and watching some running-related movies on my Amazon Prime Video (Amazon Prime has tons of FREE movies!!).
Running Podcasts I’ve been listening too and some I’ve recently discovered:
Tina Muir’s Running For Real (who also recently just had her baby!)
I also have training updates soon for my clients! I’ll be back at it sooner than later. 😉
That’s all I have the mental capacity for now. Back to nursing baby…hopefully, I’ll become a pro soon so I can nurse and blog at the same time. Too ambitious?? 🙂
